Itinerary.

After arriving on a noon flight*, receive a warm welcome at Iquitos International Airport by our crew. Board a private transfer to our exclusive Nauta Lounge for a welcome lunch before embarkation.

Settle into your generously sized suite as you begin one of life’s greatest adventures. Following an introduction from our naturalist guides and a routine safety drill, gather at the restaurant for the first of many Amazonian cuisine experiences created by Aqua Nera's renowned consulting chef, Pedro Miguel Schiaffino.

Day 1. Iquitos - Nauta - Embarkation - Marañon River

If you wish, get an early start and head out for a wildlife search along the Ucayali River. Later, head out on skiffs in search of pink river dolphins and witness the local farmers and fishermen go about their business.
At dusk, ride along the black waters of El Dorado River, searching for the mysterious wildlife that comes out after dark.

Day 2. Ucayali River - Yanallpa Creek - Dorado Lake

Start the day with a hearty breakfast, before heading out to explore the Zapote River on skiffs. This will be a full-day river safari with a picnic lunch under the Amazonian shade. Walk in the floodplain forest and learn about the medicinal trees, insects, and frogs which inhabit the region. Later, cruise along the Ucayali River and enjoy the stunning sunset.

Day 3. Ucayali River - Puinahua River - Zapote River

We start the day searching for wildlife along the Ucayali River. After breakfast, choose to go canoeing, kayaking, or swimming on the black water Clavero Lake or visit an Amazonian village.

In the afternoon, we explore the Yarapa River by skiff, in search of different kinds of wildlife. This evening before dinner, meet the crewmembers who have been working behind the scenes to ensure your exceptional experiences aboard the Aria Amazon.

Day 4. Clavero Lake - Ucayali River - Yarapa River

In the morning, take a guided visit to the local market and marvel at the regional produce of the Peruvian Amazon, and sample exotic snacks if you wish.

Return to the Aria Amazon for breakfast before disembarkation. En route to the airport, visit the Manatee Rescue Center, where orphaned Amazonian manatees rehabilitate before they are released back into the wild.

 FAQs

  • It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

  • Life is casual aboard the Aqua Nera. Bring comfortable walking shoes, light-weight long pants and long-sleeved tops for excursions, a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, extra socks, mosquito repellant with DEET, and of course, your camera, with charger and extra batteries. Don’t forget to include some items that you can give away to the locals (t-shirts, pens and paper are especially prized). During meals in the restaurant, we ask our guests to wear casual clothing and shoes. We provide rubber boots for wetland excursions and recommend taking comfortable walking shoes. We also provide waterproof ponchos with hoods to protect against rain. Design Suites on the Aqua Nera are equipped with 220-volt outlets. There will be hairdryers available in every suite.

  • As the name suggests, the Amazon rainforest sees rainfall throughout the year regardless of month or season. The Amazon experiences microclimates. This means that rain can occur in a particular localised area while other areas remain sunny. You will see spectacular Amazon wildlife, birds and plant life at any time of year. For instance, you can definitely see the Amazon’s rare pink river dolphins.

Our Amazon Experience is scheduled for the High Water Season. At this time the average temperature is 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 deg Celsius), 12 deg F (6-7 deg C) cooler than in the dry season. Although the water levels swell significantly, the increase in rainfall is relatively less drastic: 20-25% higher than that of the low water season. For example, an hour’s rain may last about 15 minutes longer.

  • Yes, we love to host families on our cruises at Aqua Expeditions. We understand that parents are constantly seeking new, engaging, and educational experiences for their children while on holiday and our Aqua Nera itineraries include just the variety and level of activity children (as well as parents) will enjoy. Kindly note that all our activities and excursions are suitable for children over five years old, as long as they are always supervised by a parent or a designated adult. These include onboard cooking lessons and lectures, piranha fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, biking, jungle walks, skiff excursions, as well as visits to local villages, markets and manatee rescue center. However, biking is not recommended for children. If a child meets the height requirement to ride an adult bicycle, exceptions can be made, but only under strict supervision of a parent or a designated adult.

  • Malaria medication and yellow fever shots are not required for travelers coming into the region; however, they are recommended. Please consult your physician. All guests are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

  • DEET remains the most effective repellent on the market. Look for products with at least 30 per cent (10 per cent for children) of the active ingredient, such as Ultrathon lotion. DEET should not be used on irritated skin or under clothing. For a natural alternative, you may use a citronella mosquito repellent. For non-chemical insect protection, cover up with long-sleeve shirts, long pants, and netted hats.

  • We provide insect repellent but recommend that you bring your own. These products will also be available for sale onboard.

  • Yes, the dining experience onboard is world class. Guests aboard the Aqua Nera will enjoy an innovative menu of fresh Peruvian-continental fare. Noted Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, one of Peru’s top chefs, has created our gourmet menus, skillfully incorporating sustainable produce and ingredients from the Peruvian Amazon. If you have special dietary requests, you will need to inform Aqua Expeditions at the time of booking, or at least by 30 days prior to embarkation. Every effort will be made to cater to special dietary needs, and to accommodate special requests, subject to a given products’ availability in Peru.

  • Our rates include complimentary laundry service onboard. If you need to contact your home or office for any emergency, the Aqua Nera is equipped with a satellite phone. The cost of your call can be paid directly on board. We will inform you, prior to calling, of the current price of an international call. We have limited complimentary internet connection onboard the vessel due to insufficient network coverage in the rainforest, therefore you may need data roaming or a local SIM card for cellular phone contact. However, keep in mind that most areas outside Iquitos are so remote that you will be unable to get a signal. We have a Health and Safety Officer on board who also serves as a paramedic, plus first aid trained staff who can handle minor scrapes, bites or sprains. There are no handicapped facilities.

  • Our rates include all meals, non-alcoholic drinks, selected wines and beer, elegant design suite accommodations, small-group excursions with expert guides, entrance fee to the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve, onboard lectures, evening entertainment, and laundry service. We will provide group transfers from/to the airport if you arrive and depart on our recommended flights.
